Ready, Set, Go!

One of the moments that every parent anticipates and dreads has arrived. Xavier is now mobile! Last week he rolled from his back to his tummy and we were very excited. Last night he rolled from back to tummy, to back, to tummy. Time to baby-proof the house!

Xavier's First Easter

Xavier had a great first Easter! He's so lucky to have so many people that love him. Easter morning we woke up and gave him his first Easter basket from Mom and Dad, and one from "Aunt" Cassie. Since he isn't ready for Candy he got toy's and books.

Then we went to have Easter with Dru's family at the farm. It was kinda of a bitter-sweet for Dru this year. The farm has been in the family since Dru's Great Grandma. This is the last year though, since Dru's Aunt and Uncle that live there are moving to CO this summer.
 Childer's Family

After a wonderful Easter meal, and getting to see a lot of family that we haven't seen for a long time, Xavier had his first Easter Egg hunt. After the eggs were hidden it was everyone out to search for them. Once again Xavier was a little young to really understand the concept, but Grant had a blast!

After our very exciting egg hunt we came inside to see what the "Easter Bunny" brought Xavier. I don't know what you are supposed to do to make the Easter Bunny visit, but Xavier must have done it, he got 4 more Easter Baskets! He got bunches of neat toys, books, clothes, and money for his piggy bank (and some candy for Mommy).

Xavier was very good for 3 hours, being awake and happy, and willing to go to anyone who wanted him. But, since he didn't nap the whole time, when he was ready to go, he wanted to leave NOW. Over all it was great, a big thanks to everyone for all your thoughtful gifts.

Dyeing Easter Eggs

On Good Friday Xavier went to Grandma and Grandpa's house to dye Easter eggs with his cousin and aunts and uncles. When we first got there everyone held and played with Xavier. He was very good and gave everyone cute smiles and giggles. Then, after we had pizza for dinner, it was egg dyeing time.

Cousin Grant was the chief egg dyer since he's almost 2, but even he got a little confused about how it all worked. He, understandably, thought that he should use the spoon to drink the pretty liquid in the bowl. Apparently it wasn't that bad since he said "yummm", but he didn't try it again either =) Grant had a lot of fun spooning the dye over the eggs, and spinning an egg in the egg spinner.

Xavier mostly took everything in to remember for next year, and hung out. He did help Mommy dye a couple eggs for his basket.

First Trip to the Zoo

April 23, 2011

We took Xavier to the zoo for the first time. I know he's a little young but now that we, and most of our friends, have kids it's more challenging to hang out. So when our friends Greg and Paula invited us to go to the zoo with them and their 20 month old daughter Hannah we jumped at the chance.

It was actually one of the best zoo experiences Dru's had. It was a cool, overcast day so it wasn't super crowded, and the animals were all enjoying being out. I wore Xavier in a front facing wrap so he could see all of the different things and stay snug. I'm not sure how much he took in, but he seemed to follow some of the brightly colored fish in the Rainforest and in the aquarium. He was awake and interested for 2+ hours before he fell asleep. We need to get better at taking pictures, and remember to take more of them.

GERD Update

As most of you know we've been working to get Xavier's GERD under control since he was 2 weeks old. We had a follow-up appointment with the GI specialist and it looks like we've got it as good as it's going to get. Our magic concoction is 1/2 breast milk, 1/2 Nutramigen (one step below prescription) formula, thickened with 1 1/2 teaspoons of rice cereal per ounce of liquid, fed every 3 hours.

The good news is Xavier almost never screams like he's being murdered anymore, and when he does cry it's almost always for a reason (tired, hungry, wet, etc. . ) The frustrating reality is that Xavier's what they like to call a "fat happy spiter". Meaning that even though we soak 2-3 bibs every bottle, since the puking doesn't bother him, he's gaining weight and meeting developmental milestones like he should, we just have to deal with the excessive amounts of throw-up. Maybe it's genetic, according to our mothers Dru and I both had the same issue until we were six months old.

Gardening

April 2, 2011

After a long, gloomy winter I was super excited to see my Daffodils poking their heads through the mulch. Since it was pretty nice out I decided Xavier and I could do a little gardening. I put Xavier in his spring jacket, which has super cute ears on the hood, and set him in his Bumbo (the blue chair thing that helps him sit). Xavier seemed to like being outside, and looking at all of the different things. He made a kind of puckered up face when a strong breeze blew across his face.

Our First Play-Date

April 1, 2011

One of the things I didn't anticipate about being a Stay At Home Mom (SAHM), was how much I'd miss the adult interaction that work provided. So even though Xavier is a little young, Cassie (my SAHM hero) and I decided to start a monthly play-group with some of our part-time SAHM friends. Since Cassie has almost 2 year old triplets, and a fully stocked play room to match, we decided to have it at her house. We decided mornings were best and all brought a snack to share. It was really fun and I'm looking forward to our next one!
